Project Brief
To evolve our wellness brand, nochtane, beyond its seasonal light therapy lamp and establish our core brand principles, I designed the O1 Journal as a repeatable, non-seasonal product entry point. I led the end-to-end design process, transforming an original personal project concept into a holistic 13-week system including the health framework, gamification, layouts, illustrations, and physical design. While I executed the design, our founder managed the manufacturing and supply chain coordination in China to bring the product to life.

Problem
Young people aged 18-35 in urban China face high stress and struggle to maintain healthy habits, yet existing wellness tools are often rigid and high-pressure, overly preachy and one-dimensional, or encourage unproductive rumination.
Insights
While most target users attempt to maintain healthy habits, nearly 40% fail to even keep one up. Long-form venting can lead to negative “meta-emotions” and worsen mood; simple mood identification and limited reflection are healthier for emotional processing.
Solution
The O1 journal is a 13-week wellness system that integrates a six-pillar health framework, a sticker unlock system, and gentle prompts to guide users toward achievable daily mental and physical health practices.
Outcome
A psychologist customer noted that the journal’s focus on subjective feelings and reflection over strict metrics makes it a perfect therapeutic complement to our light therapy lamp.
It proved particularly successful for Rednote users with “P” (Perceiving) MBTI types who usually struggle with consistency, with many continuously sharing their progress and praising the journal’s approachable, sustainable structure.
